God is in the Threads

Posted in Positive thinking at 3:29 am by sewhisword

Sewing with needle and thread is therapeutic…like running…the thread moves along without interruption. Tapestries and knitted sweaters have knots and twisted threads in the background and that is how life really works as well. God, however sees the good in us and doesn’t focus on the imperfections. He loves us just the way we are, loose ends and all. When we are tangled up in doubt or despair, just like twisted threads, we can become easily free by focusing on Him.

Latest SewHisWord Art Quilt!

Cooper’s Beach in Southampton, Long Island is extremely popular, especially in the summer. It is the beach where I was first inspired to knit. Back in 1983, a perfect summer day; the ocean looked like aluminum foil. Sitting next to me on their beach blanket were two young sisters with braided hair, both babbling endlessly while clicking their knitting needles. It was one of those moments when I wished that I could knit. It was a nice memory to be treasured. Did knitting resemble the ocean waves? Did I know back then that knitting would help me to quit smoking? Quit and Knit? I didn’t realize at the time that I would become a knitter and fiber artist later in life and quit smoking as well. coopers-beach.jpg
It’s interesting how God quides us toward certain things and it’s up to us to notice them, be obedient, and apply them to our lives. You don’t have to use paint to make an impressionistic painting. The following small art quilt was inspired from Cooper’s Beach, which is also owned by Anderson Cooper’s family – a fun tidbit of information. The quilt was made from different fibers, fabric, beads, and yarns. It also has a sewn scripture.

Be Inspired

The first time I heard the song “Shout to the Lord” was back in the 1990s.

Darlene Zschech, who wrote the song, was interviewed on the local Christian radio station.  She is a Christian Worship leader, singer, and writer from the Hillsong Church in Sydney, Australia.  I heard “Shout to the Lord” played on that station many more times since and each time I heard it, I knew it would become as popular as “Amazing Grace.”

If you ever feel discouraged, need to be inspired, and want to hear God speak to your heart, listen to one of her CDs.  I love her music and you will too!

Darlene’s book “The Kiss of Heaven” is a must read!  It’s very uplifting and easy to apply to your life.

 Keep the Faith!

Majestic Glory

Posted in Fiber Art, God, Jesus, Painting, Photography, Positive thinking at 1:10 am by sewhisword

God has many names throughout the Bible and after researching His many Names, one that is meaningful to me is Majestic Glory.  I recently made a small art quilt and decided to name it Majestic Glory.  This particular name can be found in the Bible in the following verse: II Peter 1:17:

“For he received honor and glory from God the Father when the voice came to him from the Majestic Glory, saying, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” NIV

The quilt depicts a purple mountain scene with grassy areas painted with threads, embroidered french knot flowers, and beaded flowers in the foreground.  As I made the quilt, I kept being reminded of God’s Majesty and Glory.  I printed His Name – Majestic Glory – onto silk, painted it with gold fabric paint, and hand-stitched  the silk piece onto the quilt.

This quilt was made to glorify Him.

Happy as Birds

Posted in Daily Devotional, God, Jesus, Positive thinking at 5:04 pm by sewhisword

I like to watch birds; they always seem happy.  They are also diligent and proactive.

Birds don’t get bummed out like people do, nor do they complain.  They find their food and sing Thank You songs to God in the morning and before they go to sleep at night.

It’s hard to stay positive and hopeful if you have to rely on people.  God is the only One who follows through on His Promises.  He promises good things for us and doesn’t discourage us when we are feeling down.   🙂

Happy thoughts come and go;

It’s time to use the thoughts I know;

To believe and hope in things I pray;

And look toward Heaven right now and all day.

God is Sovern – He has Supreme Authority over everything!  Remember, Jesus turned water into wine.  Give it up whatever is bothering you.

“The Lord has established His throne in the heavens; And His sovereignty rules over all.”  Psalm 103:19 (NASB)

No More Despair!

Posted in God, Jesus, Positive thinking at 1:50 pm by sewhisword

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.”  Romans 8:1-2 (NASB)

Lately, in the workplace, it is easy to feel despair,  stress and discouragement.  This scripture verse if very comforting and helps one to remember that “…there is now no condemnation in Christ Jesus…”

One must remember that we are to keep our eyes on Him, above all else!   Try to forget about the bullies, jerks, and selfish people, who treat others badly and remember that we must enjoy God now!

“And he said to him, ‘My child, you have always been with me, and all that is mine is yours.” (Luke 15:31)

Try not to be discouraged.  God is able to remove your hurt and pain.  Right now, go up to His Throne and leave all of your upset at His feet.  He will restore you.

You have reached my blog space – Sew His Word, which means exactly what it says.  I am a fiber artist, who wants to Glorify God by sewing His Word into everything I make.  I also want to sew His Word, by planting seeds each day.  I will add more photos of my art work as I complete each piece.

 Take care and blog to you soon.
